BitTorrent acquires µTorrent in a bid to go Legit

BitTorrent has recently purchased competitor µTorrent, a similar torrent tecno-powered file-sharing system that actually uses BitTorrent's own software protocol. The two services have a combined user base of over 135 million.

No financial terms of the deal have been released. This new acquisition is yet another shift by BitTorrent in an attempt to avoid legal battles and eventually to make itself into completely legal competitor in the online content sphere.

In November, BitTorrent also announced free and fee-based content distribution contracts with 20th Century Fox and MTV Networks.
